GULU, UGANDA – During Minister Nobert Mao’s homecoming and thanksgiving ceremony at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu City, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, advised him to work harmoniously with President Museveni, emphasizing the President’s reliability as a man of his word.
Having closely collaborated with President Museveni, Tayebwa attested to the President’s sincerity and urged Minister Mao to maintain trustworthiness in his dealings with the government led by President Museveni.
Tayebwa praised Minister Mao, acknowledging him as a visionary leader who advocates for a united Uganda, even while serving as an opposition figure. He expressed encouragement, saying that such gestures reinforced hope in a future where the country stands united. The Deputy Speaker assured that the Parliament would lend full support to any initiatives aimed at fostering national unity.
While some criticized Mao’s collaboration with the ruling government, Tayebwa defended the Democratic Party President, asserting that his actions were in service of the country, not limited to personal interests. He urged Mao to persist in his negotiations, despite disparagement from those who misunderstood his intentions.
Furthermore, Tayebwa urged all Ugandans to come together in unity for the betterment of the nation. In response, NRM Vice Chairman, Hajj Moses Kigongo, conveyed the ruling government’s commitment to collaborate with individuals genuinely devoted to Uganda’s progress.
As the event unfolded, Gen Caleb Akandwanaho (Salim Saleh), Senior Presidential Advisor on Defence and Security and the national coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, commended Minister Mao for prioritizing the nation’s welfare over personal gain.
In the spirit of unity and reconciliation, Gulu Archdiocese Vicar General, Msgr Mathew Odong, called on Mao to lead reconciliation efforts in Northern Uganda, fostering lasting peace and harmony for the region’s development.
In his address, Minister Mao pledged to continue promoting unity throughout Uganda, intending to mobilize and preach the importance of unity for the nation’s collective purpose.
The ceremony was attended by various politicians, including Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and DP Vice President Mukasa Mbidde, all joining to celebrate Minister Mao’s return and his commitment to national unity.
