The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) issued a cautionary notice to the public regarding a fraudulent advertisement aimed at deceiving unsuspecting social media users under the guise of population census job opportunities.
The misleading advert, titled “UGANDA BUREAU OF STATISTICS 2023 AD HOC STAFF RECRUITMENT,” has been making rounds on various social media platforms. The advert claims that UBOS is currently hiring ad hoc staff for the upcoming general census and encourages interested applicants to apply through a provided link: https://bit.ly/UBOS-Recruitment-2023.
However, the Chief Executive Officer of UBOS, Chris Mukiza, refuted the legitimacy of the advert in an official statement on Monday. Mukiza emphasized that the advert is entirely fake, designed to exploit innocent unemployed youths earnestly seeking employment opportunities.
In response to the deceptive communication, Mukiza urged those who have already fallen victim to the fraud or may encounter such scams in the future to report the incidents to law enforcement authorities. He further stressed the importance of providing substantial evidence to aid in the prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators.
Mukiza clarified that whenever UBOS requires the recruitment of temporary or permanent staff, the bureau announces such opportunities through mainstream media and its official website, www.ubos.org. Application submission links are provided through these legitimate channels.

UBOS issued a stern warning to the criminals behind the unauthorized dissemination of information associated with the bureau, cautioning them against engaging in unlawful practices. The statement included a threat of legal action against these individuals once they are brought to justice.
Mukiza assured the public that UBOS would communicate all pertinent information regarding the recruitment exercise through well-established and recognized channels at the appropriate time.
It should be noted that the National Housing Population Census, 2023 (NHPC, 2023), which was initially scheduled to commence next month, faced postponement due to procurement-related delays reported by the bureau. UBOS now awaits the cabinet’s decision to set a new date for the census.
