Mr Noah Kiyimba, the spokesperson for Buganda Kingdom, has made a formal request to UMEME, Uganda’s primary electricity distribution company, to ensure an uninterrupted power supply on July 31st. The purpose of this request is to allow the public to participate virtually in the 30th coronation anniversary celebration of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

During the official program unveiling at Lubiri, Mengo on July 26th, Mr Kiyimba disclosed that the kingdom has received numerous complaints from individuals residing in different areas about power outages whenever official events are held by the kingdom.

While this year’s anniversary celebration is open to the general public, many individuals are unable to attend the physical function. Instead, they plan to follow the event through mainstream media channels, such as television and social media platforms, which will provide live coverage.

Mr Kiyimba stated, “This is a special request to UMEME, that on Monday, July 31st, any planned electricity load shedding should be rescheduled to another day, giving all Ugandans an opportunity to partake in the celebration of Kabaka’s 30th coronation anniversary.”

He further clarified, “We do not believe that the previous electricity load sheds were specifically targeting the Kingdom’s activities, but we kindly request UMEME to ensure a steady power supply, at least from morning until the function’s conclusion at lunchtime.”

The preparations for the 30th coronation anniversary of His Highness Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II are currently underway at Lubiri, Mengo. Thousands of attendees are expected to participate in the celebrations, with strict security measures in place.

In light of the security concerns, Mr David Mpanga, the chairperson of the organizing committee for the event, urged everyone to adhere to the security guidelines during the celebrations. He stated, “Given the security threats and warnings in the country, and the large gathering expected at the event, we urge all attendees to remain vigilant and follow the security guidelines issued by national security advisors.”
