Sunday, August 6, 2023

In a solemn ceremony marking his consecration and assumption of canonical possession as the 3rd ordinary of Kasana Luweero Diocese, the Right Reverend Lawrence Mukasa Lutwama, now the Bishop of Kasana Luweero, delivered his maiden address, calling for prayers to seek a new leader for the Anglican Church in Luweero.

Bishop Mukasa emphasized the importance of seeking divine guidance and intervention to address the challenges faced by the people of Luweero, and to facilitate positive transformation in all aspects, particularly in religious life.

The Church of Uganda’s followers from Luweero Diocese have been embroiled in a dispute concerning the nullification of the election of Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana by the top church leadership. The election was protested by some Christians due to unclear family matters surrounding Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana.

In addition to this, Bishop Mukasa announced the appointment of Msgr. Francis Xavier Mpanga as the new Vicar General of Kasana Luweero Diocese. Msgr. Francis Xavier Mpanga had previously served in the same position during the time of Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere as the ordinary of Kasana Luweero. Furthermore, the bishop revealed that the diocese will hold ordinations on the 19th of August.

Expressing gratitude for his appointment to serve the church, Bishop Mukasa extended his thanks to the Pope, his predecessors, the late Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, and current Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, for their significant contributions to Kasana Luweero Diocese.

Bishop Mukasa also acknowledged the unwavering support of the central government towards the Catholic Church and the faithful in both Kasana Luweero and his home diocese, Kiyinda Mityana. He pledged his unwavering commitment to evangelization and efforts to bring about transformative change in Luweero.
