Monday, August 7, 2023

The renowned NRM activist and political analyst, Who also doubles as a Kspkwirwok Primary School teacher, has stepped down from the weekly Saturday Elgon radio Hot Seat.

The development came after a warning letter was allegedly issued to him, barring him from attending any radio political show by DEO kapchorwa District.

The teacher has been known for a while for being a political critic of most Sebei politicians.

In the alleged letter authored by the District Education Officer (DEO), Kapchorwa Chebet Owen Kweko, copied to the CAO, LC5, and Head Teacher of Kspkwirwok Primary School, it alleged that Masa had breached the teachers code of conduct.

“The Code of Conduct and Ethics for the Uganda Public Service clearly states that A Public Officer may participate in politics within the provisions of the law, rules, and Regulations. He or she shall avoid, in particular, Engaging in active politics, canvassing political support for candidates, and participating in political debates, among others,” reads part of the letter.

“It is clear and evident that you are very active in political Radio Talk shows. A case in point is your recent participation in the “HOT SEAT” on Elgon Radio. This is inconsistent with the Code of Conduct and Ethics of a Public Servant,” read another part.

He accused Masa of going against his verbal directives that he shouldn’t engage in any political talk shows.

“You will recall that I invited you to my Office in July last year, and I gave you some verbal guidance on the above, but it seems you did not take it seriously,” he stated.

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to remind you that if you continue ignoring my advice, the relevant laws and regulations may be applied to you,” stated the letter.

Masa has accused the LC5 Chairperson, Kapchorwa District Evelyn Kubarika, of being the mastermind of the letter.

However, this publication couldn’t verify the authenticity of the letter, and the DEO has yet to make his official communication.
