Niger | BBC News – Niger’s coup leaders have taken a decisive step by closing the nation’s airspace until further notice, citing the ominous threat of military intervention from neighboring countries. This move comes in response to the demand from the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas), urging the reinstatement of President Mohamed Bazoum by Sunday.

Ecowas, a regional bloc of West African states, issued a stern warning that the junta ruling Niger could face military action if their demands were not met. Consequently, the group is scheduled to convene on Thursday to chart out the next steps in this escalating crisis.

The tense situation in Niger has garnered international attention, with Mali and Burkina Faso, both also under military rule, expressing solidarity with the junta’s actions. In a show of support, officials from both countries have announced their intention to journey to Niger.

Adding to the intrigue, Flightradar24, a popular flight tracking service, detected a significant development. Shortly after the closure of Niger’s airspace, a transport plane took off from Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, and landed in Niger just hours later. The timing of this flight raises eyebrows and intensifies speculations about the unfolding events in the region.

As the situation continues to unfold, neighboring nations are closely monitoring the developments in Niger, with their eyes firmly fixed on the outcome of Ecowas’ impending meeting. The closure of airspace is a clear signal of the coup leaders’ resolve, leaving the international community bracing for potential repercussions.

With tensions at their peak and the possibility of military intervention looming, the fate of Niger’s political landscape hangs in the balance. As the world watches with bated breath, leaders across the region must navigate through this critical juncture, aiming to restore stability and peace in Niger.
