DR Congo – In a remarkable joint operation, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have struck a decisive blow against the notorious Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). The conflict, which has gripped the region in fear for years, witnessed a dramatic turn as two ADF insurgents met their death while two others chose to lay down their arms and surrender.

The valiant efforts of this multinational alliance have shattered the once-impregnable ADF ranks. According to Maj Umar Katamba, the resolute spokesperson for the Shujja Operations, the UPDF’s 3rd battalion headquarters at Kasindi, North Kivu, welcomed two former ADF fighters who made the life-altering decision to embrace peace.

In a riveting turn of events, Maj Katamba unveiled the pivotal encounter that transpired on August 6th, 2023. The collaborative forces, operating under the indomitable banner of the Makindye battalion, extinguished the menace of two ADF terrorists. The ADF’s ambitions were thwarted in the formidable embrace of the Makindye battalion, yielding a cache of two submachine guns, a trove of 15 rounds of ammunition, and a critical communication lifeline – a walkie-talkie – all wrested from the clutches of ADF control.

Sunday’s engagement between the joint forces and the ADF not only proved victorious but also led to the emancipation of seven captives ensnared by the ADF’s tyranny. These survivors, now safely harbored at the joint forces sector headquarters, mark a tangible testament to the coalition’s unwavering dedication. Rehabilitation awaits them, a testament to the restorative powers of unity.

In an impassioned plea, Maj Katamba extended an olive branch to the ADF rebels, calling upon those who still linger within its ranks to seize the earliest opportunity and align themselves with the forces of reconciliation. The joint forces stand as beacons of hope, offering an exit from the shadowed realm of conflict into the illumination of a new beginning.

As the sun sets on a day etched in the annals of the fight against terror, the Ugandan-Congolese coalition’s valorous efforts resound with a promise of a safer tomorrow for a region long plagued by the ADF’s menacing presence.
