The elders committee of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has criticized the former party President, Rt. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, for his dismissal of their findings.
The committee, led by Dr. Frank Nabwiso, was established subsequent to Dr. Besigye’s report to the FDC National Council. In his report, Dr. Besigye conveyed information suggesting that the FDC Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, had introduced questionable funds from the State House into the party.
Dr. Frank Nabwiso, the Chairperson of the FDC Elders Committee, addressed the media from the party’s headquarters in Najjanankumbi. He pointed out that Dr. Besigye’s remarks about their report were made in bad faith, with the intention of undermining their credibility.
Nabwiso noted that if Dr. Besigye had reservations about their findings, a more constructive approach would have been to call for the establishment of a different committee to further investigate the matter, rather than resorting to disparaging comments.
During the same press conference, John Kikonyogo, the Deputy Spokesperson of the FDC, also accused Dr. Besigye of handling party finances despite not holding the position of treasurer.
Kikonyogo further clarified that the specific serial numbers that Dr. Besigye referred to, which supposedly confirmed the existence of the so-called ‘dirty money,’ were not entirely accurate. The funds returned by Dr. Besigye to the party did not correspond exactly to the currency notes initially provided to him.
Dr. Besigye, a founding figure of the FDC, displayed evident emotion as he discredited the report presented by the Elders’ Committee regarding allegations of tainted funds entering the party. He expressed his dismay that the investigation failed to address the central question he had raised about the alleged dubious funds. Instead, he believed that the committee’s focus was on reconciling him with Nandala.
Dr. Besigye clarified that his concerns were not personally directed at Nandala and thus didn’t necessitate committee mediation.
Speaking from his offices at Katonga Road, where he operates the People’s Government initiative, Dr. Besigye contended that the report held little value and was hardly worth the paper it was written on.
