Luwero DIstrict | The Black Examiner – General Muhoozi Keinerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, unveiled a state-of-the-art apartment and transport workshop complex at the Land Forces General Headquarters in Bombo. This multi-billion project, christened the “Patrice Lumumba Apartments” in honor of the former Prime Minister of the present-day Democratic Republic of Congo, is set to accommodate more than sixteen families of officers.
General Keinerugaba emphasized the historical importance of Bombo barracks within Uganda and the broader East African context. Established in 1906 during Uganda’s colonial era, the barracks hold cultural and strategic significance. The General vowed to ensure the construction of top-tier facilities across the country, underlining that professionalism is closely linked to adequate infrastructure.
He extended his gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief for their unwavering commitment to bolstering the armed forces with modern amenities and equipment. Furthermore, General Keinerugaba expressed appreciation for the pivotal role played by the army leadership, particularly Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, the Commander of Land Forces, in bringing the officers’ apartment and motor vehicle workshop to fruition.
In response, Lieutenant General Muhanga acknowledged General Keinerugaba’s timely intervention, stressing that his leadership had breathed life into crucial projects. Muhanga cited the ongoing construction of a perimeter fence, near completion, as an example of their collaborative achievements.
Major General Jack Bakasumba, the Chief of Staff for Land Forces, commended General Keinerugaba’s tenacity and effective methodologies, attributing the successful realization of these substantial projects – collectively valued at billions – to his leadership. Bakasumba reiterated their commitment to safeguarding these new facilities from any potential harm.
The remarkable execution of these endeavors was carried out by the UPDF Engineers’ Brigade.
Lieutenant Colonel James Lwegaba informed attendees that in the fiscal year 2020, the Land Forces received a budget of Ugx 28.5 billion for the construction of 400 housing units across various formations. Several other projects are currently in progress, nearing completion in different divisions and brigades.
