Mpigi District | The Black Examiner – Mpigi Local government together with Parliamentary CID have been tasked by the Parliamentary Committee on Public Accounts- Local Government to recover Sh160million from masquerading teaching staffs in Mpigi district.

According to the auditor general’s report of 2021/2022 financial year, it was discovered that Mpigi district Local Government paid Sh160m to 20 secondary school teachers for a period of seven years who had forged appointment letters from the Education Service Commission.

While appearing before the committee chaired by Gilbert Olanya, the Chief Administrative Officer Mpigi district Moses Kahyarutokye informed the MPs that after discovering that the implicated 20 teaching staff had forget appointed letters, they immediately wrote to the Education service and public service to stop remitting salaries to their accounts and also reported the matter to police.

When asked by the committee on the steps taken to recover the money from the staffs, Kahyarutokye said that all the implicated staff disappeared and can’t be traced which led the committee to direct the parliamentary CID to collaborate with the Mpigi police where the case was reported so that the culprits be traced and pay back the public funds.
