At least 24 foreign nationals have been netted by the Immigration Directorate from the Internal Affairs Ministry in the country engaged in different work activities without valid documents.

Simon Peter Mundeyi, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Spokesperson while addressing the media at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday morning, noted that among the suspects are Indians, Chinese and Pakistanis among others.

He says that those found in Kampala Business Center conducting businesses were picked at Energy Center building, Johnson Street, Kikuubo lane and in wider Kampala center.

Mundeyi says that the suspects were found without work permits and nine of them are ready to stand before the Nakawa court for deportation while the others are still under investigations.

Meanwhile, about nine (9) Ugandans and three (3) Congolese nationals are detained for allegedly being in possession of forged and attempted acquisition of Ugandan passports according to Mundeyi.

In the similar vein, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has confirmed to have deployed a number of immigration officers to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to address the issue of passport backlog at the Ugandan Immigration Office in Abu Dhabi.
