Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The chairpersons of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have submitted a formal request to the party’s president, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, urging him to take disciplinary action against three senior leaders, including National Chairman Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa. This action is being sought due to their alleged violations of party leadership principles.
In their collective appeal, the other two leaders facing potential disciplinary measures are Salaam Musumba, the Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region, and Roland Mugume Kaginda, the Vice Chairperson for the Western Region. The allegations against them include the misuse of authority and a failure to fulfill their official duties.
The petitioners accuse these three individuals of transgressing the resolutions made by the National Council concerning the structure of party elections. They also claim that these leaders have not supported the implementation of decisions made by the National Council regarding the recommendations of the special elders committee. Additionally, they cite a pattern of absenteeism from meetings with the party’s working committee.
This petition, signed by 113 district FDC chairpersons, was presented by Joseph Senzoga, the Masaka City party Chairperson, during a meeting held at the FDC party headquarters in Najjanankumbi. The FDC chairpersons are calling for the cancellation of Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa’s planned extraordinary meeting scheduled for September 19th, 2023, within 48 hours, asserting that it is both unlawful and in conflict with the previously scheduled National Executive Committee meeting set for October 6th, 2023.
Senzoga emphasizes that if Ambassador Birigwa does not comply with their request within the specified timeframe, they will instruct the party president to exercise his authority as granted by Article 28(3)(b)(iii), which empowers him to recommend disciplinary action against any member who neglects their responsibilities and absents themselves from party affairs and meetings without a valid justification.
