President Museveni awaits a report from the delegation led by two Ministers dispatched to Yumbe and Moyo districts to address the Uganda-South Sudan border disputes. This action follows tensions among Ugandan residents living along the border, prompted by South Sudanese authorities’ claims to over 20 villages in Kerwa and Kochi sub-counties of Yumbe district.
The Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, states that the two Ministers, Huda Abason Oleru (State Minister for Veteran Affairs) and Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu (State Minister for Primary Education), are currently stationed in Yumbe. They are working alongside Police Commanders, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), LC Chairpersons from both districts, Army officers, and other security agencies to facilitate resolution efforts.
Enanga notes that the delegation will produce a report, which will be submitted to President Museveni for final deliberation. In 2009, President Museveni and South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir Mayardit met in Moyo district and agreed that farmers from both countries could use the vast undeveloped farmland along the border without asserting ownership until the boundary between the two nations is redefined, a task yet to be accomplished.
