Saturday, October 14, 2023

Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | On October 12, 2023, around 8 PM, police detained Kenneth Nkurunungi, a 36-year-old former UPDF staff member, who officially retired in 2008 and currently works as a military trainer in Juba, South Sudan. Nkurunungi had returned to Uganda for a vacation on August 19, 2023, but his prolonged stay led to his alleged involvement in a scheme to transport counterfeit black dollars valued at USD 40,000 to Juba via Classic Bus.

Following instructions from Mr. Musa Adam of Juba, Nkurunungi claimed to meet an unidentified individual near Total Katwe, where he received and handed over a sealed box to Classic Bus staff at Namayiba Bus Terminal. However, complications arose, prompting police intervention, Nkurunungi’s arrest, and the subsequent discovery of the counterfeit black dollars.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrest and assured the public of an ongoing and active investigation, promising to provide further details as the case develops.
