Kabale District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | After facing strong protests from students, Kabale University has yielded to the pressure and decided to reverse the increase in surcharges.
Following the university’s decision to raise surcharges from UGX 30,000 to UGX 80,000, students at Kabale University chose to boycott their classes on Tuesday in protest.
Reportedly, the university’s management convened on Tuesday and concluded that the surcharge increment should be rescinded.
In a letter dated October 24th, Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, communicated management’s decision to the guild president. Kwesiga stressed the importance of student registration to facilitate effective planning and monitoring of students’ progress.
She mentioned, “For each semester, every student must register to allow for planning and student tracking. The recommendation is to be presented to the University Council for approval in its next scheduled meeting.”
However, Godfrey Sempungu, the University’s Senior Branding and Communications Officer, denied reports suggesting that students had boycotted their classes.
