Kisoro District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Boda-Boda riders in Kisoro District are currently enduring a constant state of anxiety as a result of a surge in abductions carried out by M23 rebels from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This poses a significant and ongoing threat to their daily routines and overall well-being.
The situation has reached a critical point, with the recent abduction of Kamari Fideri, a Boda-Boda rider hailing from Kabingo Cell in the Southern Ward of Chahafi Town Council. This incident occurred on October 10, 2023, further exacerbating the fears and concerns of the Boda-Boda community in the region. Thankfully, Fideri was released on October 24, 2023.
Addressing the Boda-Boda riders at the Kisoro District headquarters, Abel Bizimana, the District LC5 Chairman, acknowledged the prevailing insecurity and expressed his disappointment with the delayed response from the Uganda People’s Defense Forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo, operating within the East African Forces.
Bizimana emphasized the urgent necessity for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to implement robust security measures not only for Kisoro residents but also extending to their homes. This is seen as a crucial step to mitigate further incidents of kidnapping.
In response to the escalating threat and the perceived lack of government action, Bizimana suggested that Boda-Boda riders consider organizing a peaceful demonstration to seek assistance. This action is seen as a last resort if the government remains unresponsive to the growing insecurity that is severely impacting their livelihoods and safety.

Meanwhile, in Kisoro, residents are facing kidnappings by M23 rebels. It’s important to highlight that Kisoro is just 204 km from Busheny
Additionally, a few days ago, an unfortunate incident occurred when an East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) Kenyan soldier lost his life on Tuesday in Kibumba, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), due to a mortar fire attack attributed to M23 rebel group according to Lt-Col Kaiko Ndjike, the spokesman for the Congolese army in North Kivu
