Ham Sserunjogi, a Ugandan entrepreneur, along with 11 others, has been officially sworn in as members of the inaugural United States Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement. This council, proposed by President Biden during his meeting with African Heads of State in Washington DC last December, aims to foster dialogue between the United States and the African Diaspora.
Sserunjogi, currently residing in San Francisco, California, is the Co-founder and CEO of Chipper Cash, a groundbreaking fintech platform facilitating seamless international money transfers.
The council’s chairman is Bishop Silvester Scott Beaman of Delaware, with notable members including Mimi E. Alemayehou, Rosalind Brewer, actress Viola Davis, Helene D. Gayle, and Patrick Hubert Gaspard. Additional members are C.D. Glin, Osagie Imasogie, Almaz Negash, Chinenye Joy Ogwumike, and Kevin Young.
Vice President Kamala Harris administered the oath of office to the council members at the White House on Monday, expressing her enthusiasm for strengthening U.S. partnerships with African nations and reestablishing the United States’ presence on the African continent. U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken emphasized the council’s role in providing advice and recommendations to enhance ties between African countries and the United States. The council’s formation follows extensive consultations and the selection of these 12 individuals for their vital roles in bridging these connections.
