Russia has accused the United States of relocating some of its “unfinished” biological weapons research projects from Ukraine to Africa. According to Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s troops of radiological, chemical, and biological defense, this work is allegedly taking place in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. Kirillov questioned the alignment of these projects with their stated goal of promoting public health.
He highlighted the Pentagon’s claim that the biological projects in Nigeria aim to combat HIV/AIDS but pointed out that the HIV incidence rate has not significantly improved and the mortality rate among HIV-infected individuals has not shown positive trends. Kirillov also raised concerns about efforts to conceal the involvement of the Pentagon in these projects, suggesting that some activities were carried out under the cover of the U.S. State Department.
