Kabale District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | A total of 287 graduates are poised to receive their well-deserved certificates after successfully completing their studies at Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery. The institution has launched a fundraising campaign to secure the necessary funds for a crucial school building project.
Mr. Asiimwe Darius, the Academic Registrar of Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery, announced this during a press conference held on October 31, 2023, at the school grounds in Rugarama, Northern division of Kabale Municipality. He explained that the purpose of the gathering was to unveil the upcoming 4th graduation ceremony.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled to take place at St. Peter’s Cathedral grounds in Rugarama on Friday, November 3rd, 2023.
Mr. Darius shared statistics about the graduating class, revealing that out of the 287 graduates, 185 are Nurses and 102 are Midwives, with a balanced distribution of 66 male and 221 female graduates. This marks a significant increase compared to the last graduation, which saw 221 graduates, including 120 Nurses, 101 Midwives, 18 male graduates, and 203 female graduates.
He highlighted the impressive growth of the institution since its inception. The school’s journey began in 2013 with just 23 students and two courses. Today, it boasts an enrollment of 350 students, with a noteworthy increase in male student enrollment, rising from 8% in 2021 to an impressive 30% in 2023.
Mr. Darius also emphasized a significant challenge the school is currently facing: a shortage of suitable buildings to accommodate the growing student population. He stressed that the institution has the potential to educate even more students but is constrained by inadequate infrastructure.
Darius urged everyone to attend the graduation ceremony and contribute to the school’s fundraising efforts, which will play a pivotal role in completing the ongoing construction of a much-needed school building. He also revealed that the school will celebrate its 10th anniversary on the same day, marking a decade of dedicated service in nurturing the next generation of nurses and midwives.
Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT & National Guidance, will serve as the chief guest for this momentous occasion.
Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery was founded by the Diocese of Kigezi and began operations in November 2013. The school operates under the auspices of the Ugandan government through the Ministry of Education and Sports (BTVET Department) and the Ministry of Health (Uganda Nurse and Midwives Council- UNMC).
