Pakwach District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Seven individuals belonging to the Emyooga Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) in Pakwach district have been apprehended on allegations of financial mismanagement.

Among those detained are Francis Ocama, who serves as the chairperson of Local Leaders Emyooga Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization, along with Matilde Jumutho Olum, Emmy Rubange, Peter Opio, and others.

The arrests took place on the orders of Pakwach Resident District Commissioner Paul Eseru, who explained that the district security committee decided to apprehend these members due to their inability to recover 20 million shillings that had been advanced to their SACCO in 2021.

Eseru also pointed out that the Emyooga leaders had been obstructing the auditing process of the SACCO and had failed to conduct the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the organization.

Milton Bua, the Political Commissar for Pakwach district, confirmed the suspects’ arrest and stated that they are currently being held at Pakwach Central Police Station. He also cautioned local residents against misappropriating funds intended for poverty alleviation programs, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), the Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), and the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP).

Christopher Jakyeyu, the Pakwach District Principal Commercial Officer, reported that they are closely monitoring five other Emyooga SACCOs that are grappling with similar challenges.
