KAMPALA – Ugandan businessmen engaged in the production and sale of Kaveera (plastic bags) and manufacturing factories are gripped with apprehension following a directive issued by State Minister for Environment, Beatrice Anywar.
The minister has imposed a ban on the import, manufacturing, use, and sale of single-use plastic items in a significant move aimed at environmental conservation. The directive specifically targets plastic bags, cups, coffee stirrers, water bottles, and various food packaging materials that pose a considerable threat to the environment.
Minister Anywar emphasized the immediate implementation of the directive, leaving businesses dealing in these plastic products in a state of uncertainty.
