Kawempe, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Police are actively searching for a man who, leaving his four children at home to pick grasshoppers, later discovered two of them dead in a house fire. The incident occurred in Kimwanyi Zone, Katanga Parish, Kawempe division over the weekend.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, during an interrogation with the 12-year-old elder sister of the deceased, it was revealed that their father, Muhammad Kibuuka, had left them with 6,000 shillings for food. However, he had spent a week away from home prior to the tragic incident.
The suspect left 12-year-old Shamirah Nakigudde in charge of her three siblings, who later left to play. The home caught fire, resulting in the deaths of Shakur Ssentongo (7 years) and Badru Tamale (4 years), while Juma Kigongo Mugerwa survived.
In a separate incident, the police confirmed the death of a 36-year-old lady identified as Mariam Nannyonga, a resident of Mbagala Cell in Gomba Sub-county, Mukono district. Owoyesigyire stated that Nannyonga’s death was caused by an electronic short circuit that ignited the fire, ultimately leading to her suffocation.
