Summary:

  • The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council General Assembly suspended six delegates for alleged misconduct during its Annual General Meeting, initiating an investigation by a disciplinary committee, while also presenting reports from various sector committees.

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council General Assembly convened its Annual General Meeting at the Old Kampala National Mosque on Thursday, where a significant decision was made to suspend six delegates due to alleged misconduct.

The newly appointed UMSC Secretary-General, Hajji Abbas Sekyanzi Muluubya, disclosed the names of the suspended delegates as follows: Hajj Abdul Kiyimba from Lwengo, Sulaina Kigongo from East Buganda, Kamara Zuraika from Kampala, Musa Muyinda from Rubaga, Huzairu Ssendegeya from Sheema, and Yasin Kakuru from Kiruhura.

Hajji Muluubya clarified that a disciplinary committee had been formed to investigate the conduct of these individuals. The suspended delegates will have the opportunity to present their defense against the accusations leveled against them.

The Secretary-General emphasized that the committee’s mandate is to determine whether the behavior of the suspended members aligns with the expected conduct of honorable members of the General Assembly.

Sheikh Ramadhan Mulindwa, the Khadi of Luwero District, shared that the committee’s focus extends to investigating the involvement of suspended members in disclosing information about UMSC, even though they do not hold official spokesperson roles.

The Annual General Meeting, attended by 239 out of 264 members, also featured the presentation of reports from various sector committees within the council. The suspension and the subsequent investigation mark a significant development within the UMSC, raising questions about internal governance and accountability.
