The third victim, Mujurizi Herbert, also known as Rough, was a resident of Rukungiri District and the driver of the taxi.
The 13 occupants of the taxi (UBP314A) sustained injuries and were admitted to Itojo Hospital.
According to Mr. Samson Kasasira, the spokesperson for Rwizi Regional Police, the accident involved vehicles UBN 375Q (Subaru Forester) and UBP314A (Toyota Hiace – white) at Kahunga Trading Center along Ntungamo-Mbarara Road.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Subaru driver, heading from Mbarara to Ntungamo in rainy conditions, encountered water covering his lane near Kahunga Trading Center. In an attempt to navigate, he turned right, violating the right of way of the oncoming UBP 314A, resulting in a head-on collision.
By Sunday evening, the deceased bodies were taken to the Itojo Hospital Mortuary for postmortem, and both vehicles were towed to Ntungamo Police Station for inspection.
On December 2, Twesigye had been celebrating his traditional union with his fiancée in Rukungiri. The couple, eagerly anticipating their wedding on December 9, 2023, faced an unexpected tragedy.
The NWSC community and beyond are mourning Twesigye’s untimely death. His commitment to NWSC work earned him respect, amplifying the impact of his sudden passing. Investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing, and the NWSC community mourns the loss of a valuable member.
As colleagues, friends, and family grapple with the abrupt loss of a promising life, the once joyful plans for Engineer Kenneth Twesigye’s wedding are now overshadowed by grief.
