She was buried together with the fetus in a bush, in Yuku village, Aruu territory, Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The matter came to light on November 14, 2023, after chaos erupted between the family of Enzaru and the husband after they received information that their daughter was killed and buried in DR Congo.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional police spokesperson in a statement issued on Friday said that the matter was brought to the attention of the police on November 17, 2023, after one of the relatives of the deceased went to the police station with photographs of a dead person whom she identified as Enzaru.
“On 17th November 2023, at around 5:12 pm, one of the relatives of the deceased Sharon went to the police station with photographs of a dead person whom he identified as his missing sister Sharon Enzaru”, Angucia said in a statement.
According to Angucia after obtaining the information, the police made an effort to arrest Ogui but failed after he and his family members fled from their residence in Kasua cell, Komite Ward Ayivu division to an unknown place.
“Efforts to call and arrest the suspect failed as the suspect and his family members took off from their home in Kasua cell to an unknown place, and are still being traced”, she noted.
On Thursday, the body of Enzaru was repatriated to Uganda for postmortem with the help of migration officials from both countries. According to police, the post-mortem results indicate that the two kidneys and part of the uterus of the deceased were missing.
Marlon Avutia, the Mayor of Ayivu Division in Arua City appealed for calm among the aggrieved community members as police intensifies the search for the suspect.
“I urge the affected community to remain calm not to take the law into their hands, but instead share information widely on the whereabouts of the suspects”, Avutia noted.
