Summary:
- A fatal accident in Zombo District involving a Fuso truck transporting Christians from a youth convention resulted in at least two immediate deaths, over 40 minor injuries, and raised concerns about the perilous nature of the Zeu Lorr Trading Centre gradient.
A tragic incident unfolded in Zombo District on a Saturday evening, resulting in at least two immediate fatalities and over 40 individuals sustaining minor injuries. The calamity occurred when a Fuso truck, transporting Christians from a Pentecostal Assembly of God youth convention/crusade in Alangi Subcounty, lost control and overturned multiple times on the steep gradient of Lorr Trading in Zombo District.
The Fuso truck, identified by Registration Number UBN 061T, was carrying more than 50 Christians, primarily youths from Nebbi and Pakwach districts. Survivors recounted that the turnman dismissed the driver after a brief stop to purchase items, expressing concerns about his intentions and behavior.
Roy Masendi, the Zeu Subcounty district councillor, highlighted the challenges faced in transferring the casualties to Zeu Health Centre III and Nyapea Hospital for urgent medical attention. While one individual was confirmed dead at Zeu Health Centre III shortly after the accident, others were rushed to Nyapea Hospital, although the limited ambulance capacity posed a challenge in transporting critically injured victims.
As of Sunday’s press time, law enforcement authorities had not released any statements regarding the accident’s cause. The incident spotlighted the perilous nature of the Zeu Lorr Trading Centre’s elevated gradient, which has witnessed two vehicle overturns and claimed three lives. This location has emerged as a hazardous zone for novice drivers, passengers navigating the route, and vehicles with precarious mechanical conditions.
