A 28-year-old man has been placed in Luzira maximum prison after being apprehended for scavenging scrap materials from State House Nakasero in Kampala.

Abraham Muhumuza, a scrap dealer residing in Wakiso district, appeared before Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko at Buganda Road Court grade one, where he faced charges of trespassing.

The prosecution alleges that on November 30, 2023, Muhumuza entered State House Nakasero with the intention of annoying and intimidating Special Forces Command (SFC) soldiers on guard, under the pretext of collecting scrap materials.

Despite pleading not guilty, he has been remanded in Luzira prison until January 19, 2024. Prosecution representative Allan Mucunguzi asserts that their inquiries are complete, and they are prepared to present witnesses.

In a separate incident, a 29-year-old casual laborer at Arua Park has been brought before Buganda Road Magistrates Court and subsequently remanded to Luzira Prison for aggravated robbery involving 160,000 shillings.

James Alionzi, a resident of Ttula zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, appeared before grade one magistrate Siena Owomugisha, facing a charge of aggravated robbery.

The prosecution maintains that on December 10, 2023, at Arua Park in Kampala, Alionzi and accomplices, still at large, robbed Deng Atem of 160,000 shillings at knifepoint during the incident.

Ordered to return to court on January 25, 2024, Alionzi awaits further legal proceedings.
