Fallen pilot Lt. Allan Tukamuhabwa eulogized for fighting ADF terrorists

The Air Force Wing Commander in Entebbe, Brigadier General Chris Kasaija, paid tribute to the late Lt Allan Tukamuhabwa Kapando, one of the pilots who lost their lives in the helicopter crash on January 2, 2024. Brig Gen Kasaija hailed Lt Tukamuhabwa as an exceptional pilot, highlighting his significant contributions to combating the Allied Democratic Forces terrorists in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

“He played a vital role in addressing insecurity posed by the Allied Defense Forces (ADF) in Western Uganda and extending into the DRC. Lt Allan will be forever remembered for his dedication to duty, and his sacrifice in the line of duty will not be forgotten. The UPDF – Air Force stands in solidarity with the late Lt Allan’s family during these challenging times,” expressed Brig Gen Kasaija.

The Wing Commander spoke at the burial ceremony held on January 6, 2024, at Lt Tukamuhabwa’s ancestral home in Seeta Village, Kinuuka Sub-county, Bwamiramira Parish in Lyantonde district. He shared that Lt Tukamuhabwa had completed his basic flying course and had excelled in piloting advanced combat helicopters, specifically with the Cobra Squadron. Brig Gen Kasaija praised the late pilot’s commitment, emphasizing his professionalism and passion for his responsibilities.

Hon. James Kakooza, a Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), expressed condolences to Mr. James Rugazu, Lt Tukamuhabwa’s father. He pledged to support the education of one of the late pilot’s children. Hon. Kakooza underscored the ongoing mission of the UPDF, emphasizing Uganda’s dedication to Pan-Africanism and the pursuit of security and prosperity in the East African region by eradicating insecurity.

Acknowledging the tragic incident on January 2, 2024, when the UPDF combat helicopter carrying Lt Allan Tukamuhabwa and Lt Swadiq Aroma crashed in Karugutu, Ntoroko district, the speakers highlighted the continued importance of UPDF’s mission and expressed gratitude for the force’s effective training and its role as a formidable entity in Africa.
