At least three rebels linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) have been killed by Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) in fire exchange in the jungles of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
UPDF launch assault operations dubbed Shujja in November 2021 after ADF terrorists detonated bombs in Kampala leaving four civilians a policeman killed.
Major Bilal Katanga said the Saturday operations in collaboration with DRC military against ADF terrorists put out of action three terrorists, rescued five children and three women.
“The eight people were rescued after a battle against the ADF on the West bank of River Lunah, in Matunguru Valley, North East of Maitatu, Irumu territory, Ituri Province in Eastern DRC,” Maj Katamba said.
Victims especially women have said that they were abducted by the ADF when they ambushed and hit a bus they were travelling in from Kamanda to Beni.
Women said the bus was hit at Ndalya on the 5th of November 2021. They added that they have since been under captivity.
“The joint forces also recovered an RPG bomb and medicines that were being used by the rebels. The joint forces continue to pursue the rebels who are still on the run having been routed out of Mwalika Valley late last year by the joint forces,” Maj Katamba said.
ADF is currently categorize as an affiliate of ISIS and has committed several atrocities against civilians in Eastern DRC and Uganda.
