The president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine, has criticized the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, for his silence on human rights abuses during the G77 + China Summit. In a statement shared on his official X account, Bobi Wine expressed disappointment that Guterres did not address the plight of millions of Ugandans and other Africans suffering under the rule of the host, the notorious dictator Gen. Museveni.
Bobi Wine conveyed his dissatisfaction, stating, “Mr. @UN Secretary General, @antonioguterres, It is disappointing that on your visit to Uganda, you have not spoken for the millions of Ugandans and other Africans in the region, oppressed by your host, a renowned brutal dictator, Gen. Museveni!”
He went on to criticize the UN Secretary-General’s focus during the visit, highlighting that addressing issues such as gross human rights violations, election rigging, military trials of political opponents, and the humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) would have been more meaningful. Bobi Wine lamented that opposition leaders, including himself, were either under house arrest or fleeing from the military while Guterres spoke at Munyonyo.
