Police in Kakumiro are conducting an investigation into the accident that occurred at Kihuuna village along Kakindo – Kakumiro Road, resulting in two injuries. The accident involved a Fuso truck with registration number UBB 472R, which was en route to Kikoora market.

Sources told this publication that the truck, laden with traders and their merchandise en route to the market, encountered the perilous stretch of road. The treacherous conditions, exacerbated by the vehicle’s substantial cargo and the road’s constraints, proved to be a daunting challenge for the driver to navigate. Thus, the vehicle veered off the narrow thoroughfare and tumbled down an embankment.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although the collision involved a significant number of individuals. The vehicle was carrying approximately 20 to 25 traders at the time of the incident.

“The accident appears to have been caused by the driver’s unfamiliarity with the road’s layout, particularly at a sharp corner along the route,” one trader said. This lack of knowledge led to the vehicle veering off course.

Upon arrival at the scene, traffic police promptly intervened to manage the situation. However, despite their efforts, two individuals sustained injuries in the accident.
As of the latest report, the Fuso truck involved in the accident has been towed and taken to Kihuuna Police Post for further investigation and assessment.

The injured were rushed to Kakindo Health Centre for first aid and general treatment. It should further be noted that a similar incident happened in Kakumiro, which saw 8 deaths in an overloaded truck accident in September last year.

Authorities swiftly arranged for the recovery of the fallen truck, which was subsequently transported to Kihuuna Police Post for further assessment
