Police have detained Jonathan Ekou, the head of Kaburepoli Health Centre II in Kaberamaido District, for allegedly selling government-supplied drugs. Acting Police Spokesperson for East Kyoga, Mr. Edison Obukulem, confirmed the arrest. “We received intelligence about a man in Soroti City’s Pamba Ward attempting to sell government drugs on the black market. Upon investigation, we arrested Mr. Ekou for further questioning,” Obukulem stated.
An anonymous source from the health facility revealed that the center has experienced frequent drug thefts over the past three years without any arrests. This incident highlights ongoing issues of security and accountability within the facility.
Mr. Victor Ekesu, the LC V Chairperson of Kaberamaido District, expressed his dismay over the situation, calling it an act of corruption that undermines public health and trust. “As a parent, I feel deeply saddened. This not only causes drug shortages but also sets a terrible example for other health workers,” Ekesu said.
