KAKUMIRO, (Examiner) – Police in Kakumiro have apprehended three alleged robbers accused of terrorizing local residents. The suspects, identified as Abdallah Byamukama, Mafene Niwamanya, and William Magezi, all residents of Igayaza town council in Kakumiro district, were captured during a joint operation involving the Police, Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF), and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence on Friday night. This intelligence-driven mission was launched in response to numerous attacks reported in the area.

According to Julius Hakiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police, the suspects have been targeting homes, threatening residents at gunpoint, and robbing them of cash and valuables. They have also been implicated in ambush-style robberies of travelers during nighttime.

The latest incident occurred on June 8, 2024, when the alleged robbers, armed with machetes, raided the home of Jerry Murungo in Igayaza town council, making off with 25,000 shillings before fleeing the scene.

Hakiza further disclosed that upon completion of investigations, the suspects will face charges related to aggravated robbery in court. This operation follows a similar crackdown in February, which led to the arrest of five suspects involved in criminal activities across several districts in the region.
