GULU, (Examiner) – Youth in Gulu City, many aligned with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), took to the streets to support President Yoweri Museveni’s renewed commitment to combat corruption. Led by Mr. Eyeru Jacob, Chairperson of NRM National Youth Council, hundreds marched through the city on June 15, urging the community to vehemently oppose corruption.

“Let us stand together against corruption. It undermines essential services like education and healthcare, hindering our progress,” Mr. Jacob declared during the demonstration. Emphasizing zero tolerance for corruption among the youth, he echoed President Museveni’s stance on imposing severe penalties to deter future misconduct.

“We demand strict consequences for corrupt acts to safeguard our future,” Mr. Jacob asserted, underscoring the impact of corruption on developmental funds meant for regions like Karamoja and Acholi.

Mr. Wilson Otto, General Secretary of NRM National Youth Council, and member of the Yellow Youth Movement (YYM), highlighted the youth’s mobilization efforts for upcoming elections, urging active participation to effect meaningful change.

President Museveni’s recent State of the Nation Address underscored the government’s resolve to eradicate corruption, emphasizing the readiness to utilize all necessary measures. This commitment follows the apprehension of three Members of Parliament implicated in corruption allegations, which has sparked international scrutiny and sanctions.
