Six killed in Ntungamo-Rukungiri road crash

NTUNGAMO, (Examiner) – A tragic road accident occurred today on the Ntungamo-Rukungiri Road in Ntungamo District, resulting in six fatalities and three injuries. The crash happened at 6:10 AM at Kakiika, involving two vehicles: a Toyota Hiace (UBN 337H) and an Isuzu bus (UAP 385U) from Kasaaba Bus Company.

Initial reports suggest that the Toyota Hiace, traveling from Rukungiri to Ntungamo, experienced a tire puncture. The driver parked on the right side of the road, partially obstructing the tarmac, and activated the hazard lights. Unfortunately, the Isuzu bus, en route from Kampala to Rukungiri, veered off the road and collided head-on with the parked Toyota Hiace. The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of six individuals, including the Toyota Hiace driver, the turn man, and a police officer from Nsangi Police Station. Three others were injured in the crash.

Upon receiving the distress call, traffic police quickly responded, transporting the injured to Devine Health and Ntungamo Specialist Medical Centres for urgent medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Rwashameire Health Centre IV for post-mortem examination. Both vehicles were towed to Ntungamo Central Police Station as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
