- Uganda’s first direct oil imports have arrived at the port of Mombasa, with two tankers delivering petroleum products sourced by the Uganda National Oil Company. This initiative aims to reduce fuel costs through a deal with Vitol Bahrain.
Two tankers filled with oil products have arrived at the port of Mombasa, delivering Uganda’s first consignment of imported petroleum products sourced directly by the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC). The first ship arrived from the Jebel Ali port in the United Arab Emirates with 58,000 metric tons of petrol.
A second ship from Kuwait is expected to arrive tomorrow, Thursday. Officials stated that the fuel will be discharged into the Kenya Pipeline Company infrastructure, facilitating delivery to Eldoret, Kisumu, and Nakuru in Kenya, from where it will be transported to Uganda by fuel trucks. These imports are part of a negotiated deal between the government-owned UNOC and Vitol Bahrain, aiming to lower pump prices below the current rates offered by dealers in Kenya.
