The government has denied a visa extension request by King Ronald Mutebi II, the monarch of Uganda’s Buganda tribe.
The confirmation came from Erastus Hailwa, the foreign relations officer at the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, yesterday. King Mutebi II has been undergoing treatment at the Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre in Outjo since April for an undisclosed condition.
Hailwa revealed that the king had requested a visa extension earlier this month, which the government has now declined.
“This is standard procedure for any foreign national who has stayed for 90 days in a country within a year to return to their country of origin. There is nothing controversial about that,” Hailwa stated.

“The Immigration Control Act of 1993, under Section 9, clearly stipulates a maximum stay of 90 days for non-Namibians,” he added.
