ISHAKA, Uganda (Examiner) — SPOMEDIC INITIATIVE, a student-led organization, successfully raised UGX 2.4 million to support Namisi Ronny, a Certificate in Nursing student at Kampala International University (KIU), who was on the verge of being discontinued due to unpaid tuition fees.

Ronny, who lost his father a year into his studies, had been struggling to make ends meet, taking dead semesters to cope with the financial burden. With his academic journey hanging in the balance, he turned to SPOMEDIC INITIATIVE, of which he is a member, for help.

Led by Chairperson Joy Mackline Akampulira, a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery student at KIU, the organization launched the “1K Campaign” to mobilize support for Ronny. The community responded enthusiastically, with members contributing at least UGX 1,000 each.

“We are thrilled to have been able to make a difference in Ronny’s life,” said Joy Akampulira, during an appreciation ceremony held before the media. “This is a testament to the power of community and the kindness of strangers.”

Ronny, visibly moved by the outpouring of support, expressed his deepest gratitude to SPOMEDIC INITIATIVE and the community. “I was on the brink of giving up, but you have given me a second chance. Thank you for hearing my cry for help.”

The successful fundraising campaign not only ensured Ronny’s continued education but also highlighted the importance of community support in overcoming financial challenges.
