Tororo Manhunt: Brother Kicked to Death, Suspect on the Run

Monday, June 5, 2023

Police in Tororo are hunting for a man over alleged murder of his brother in Agola Village, Kayoro Parish in Kayoro Sub County.

According to Moses Mugwe, spokesperson for the Bukedi South region police, Joel Omukaga, 48, passed away on Sunday night at around midnight after being kicked in the stomach by his brother Augustine Okware, 34.

According to the police, postmortem findings revealed that the deceased’s burst pancreas caused internal bleeding, which ultimately caused his death.

Omukaga allegedly died while trying to save his elderly brother Stephen Adilu who was being assaulted by Okware for becoming involved in a violent argument between Okware and the sister.

Okware argued with his sister Jacqueline Amal about who should receive their late mother Jenifer Alungat’s maize garden, according to the area LC1 chairperson Alex Osilo. Jenifer Alungat was to be buried on Tuesday.

We have lost two persons in the same time period, so this is very sad news for us, he said.

A close family friend, Patrick Okoth, told the media that they believe Okware may have suspected that his deceased brother was trying to capture him at the height of their argument.

He did, nonetheless, told The Black Examiner that the community and family were “deeply saddened since the two brothers have been staying peacefully with one another and had been seriously engaged in the preparatory meetings towards the burial of their mother who died a week ago.”

By Monday morning, a murder charge had been filed against Okware, according to Mugwe.
