Town Council chairperson, husband held on murder charges

On suspicion of killing the chairpersn of Mbaale Village in the same district two months ago, police in Bukomansimbi District have detained the deputy chairperson of Kagologolo Town Council and her husband.

On April 11, 2023, Mr. Sabiiti Kibirango, 72, was brutally murdered by unidentified criminals and his body was placed in a coffee plantation behind Kagologolo Catholic Church.

The suspects are Ms. Margaret Naluwooza, 43, a Mbaale Village resident and vice chair of the Kagologolo Town Council, and her 53-year-old husband, Mr. Ali Kaweesi.

The two were apprehended by detectives in the morning of June 23 from a garden at Mukonomula Village, Majiri Sub County in Kyenjojo District where they had been hiding since April, according to SP Twaha Kasirye, the spokesperson for the Southern Regional Police.

We informed our counterparts in Kyenjojo, who cooperated with local informers, that the suspects had escaped Bukomansimbi and moved there after learning this, Kasirye stated.
