RCCG Pastor shot dead, seven worshippers abducted by Gunmen in Ogun

In a tragic incident on Saturday, unidentified gunmen targeted a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) located in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. During the attack, the pastor was killed, and seven worshipers were abducted.

Soji Ganzallo, the Commander of the Ogun State government’s security outfit known as So-Safe Corps, confirmed the distressing event. Ganzallo reported that his officers swiftly responded to the situation and successfully rescued the seven abducted church members. Additionally, they managed to neutralize one of the kidnappers.

Moruf Yusuf, the Director of Information and Public Relations of So-Safe, released a statement to the media in Abeokuta, providing details of the incident. According to Yusuf, the attack occurred at approximately 12 am on Saturday, July 1.

Ganzallo explained that the Owode-Egba Zonal Command of the Corps, led by ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received an urgent distress call about the attack on members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, specifically the Desires of Nations Parish under Ogun Province 22. The incident took place during a vigil, resulting in the kidnapping of seven church members and the tragic killing of the pastor.

Promptly responding to the call, the Corps’ officers were tasked with apprehending the suspects and ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted victims. Ganzallo commended the swift action taken by the officers, highlighting their dedication to duty.

Furthermore, Ganzallo revealed that the efforts of the So-Safe Corps yielded positive results. The seven kidnapped victims were successfully rescued without harm. During the exchange of gunfire, one of the kidnappers was killed, while several other suspects sustained significant injuries.

The joint team comprising the Police and the So-Safe Corps is now actively pursuing the remaining fleeing suspects with the intention of capturing them alive. Ganzallo emphasized that the deceased kidnapper’s body has been transferred to a nearby morgue.

This shocking incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by communities and places of worship. The authorities are urged to intensify efforts to enhance security and protect the lives of citizens across the nation.
