A collision between two vehicles in Uganda on Sunday night resulted in the tragic death of at least 16 individuals. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m in Kyenjojo district

The Ugandan police issued an official statement confirming the loss of 16 lives in Nyasheke village, located within Kyenjojo district on the Fort Portal Hoima Road. Anthony Kalangwa, the chief of Nyasheke village, informed Anadolu that a taxi originating from Fort Portal had reached Muzizi forest in Nyasheke village when it collided head-on with a truck. Fourteen individuals died instantly at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries later.

Sadly, Uganda frequently witnesses a high number of road accidents due to reckless driving and poor road conditions. Recognizing the severity of the issue, Parliament Speaker Anita Among held a special meeting with traffic police and the Ugandan National Road Authority on Thursday. The objective of the meeting was to discuss measures aimed at reducing the frequency of road accidents, which claim over 10 lives every week. The urgency of the meeting was heightened by the recent deaths of notable businessman Apollo Nyegamehe, former lawmaker Charles Angiro Gutmoi, and several others in road accidents within a single week.

According to the annual report for 2021 published by the Ugandan police, a total of 17,443 road traffic accidents were recorded, of which 3,757 proved to be fatal.
