Amidst the escalating internal conflicts and tensions within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi declared yesterday that he would not reveal the party’s source of funding to the general public.

Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the party spokesperson, who has openly expressed his reservations about both Amuriat and the party Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, challenged the president to disclose the origin of the substantial funds, allegedly amounting to billions of Shillings, that were brought into the party during the 2021 general elections from an undisclosed source.

Speculations suggest that the money might have come from President Museveni. Ssemujju emphasizes that to dispel these suspicions, Amuriat and Nandala must be transparent and reveal the source of the funds used during the elections.

Amuriat acknowledges that declarations about funding are made to the electoral commission but insists that they cannot be publicly disclosed. According to him, the funds were approved and borrowed from a “friendly source,” and proper accounting has been done.

Amuriat asserts that nobody can halt the electoral process and dismisses claims that the National Chairman has the power to suspend polls. He adds that the party’s electoral commission is all set to commence the elections.

Earlier on the same day, Dr. Col. Warren Kiiza Besigye, a four-time former presidential candidate, called for a halt to the internal elections within the opposition Forum for Democratic Change party. Speaking at his office on Katonga Road, Dr. Col. Besigye expressed that unless the party resolves its internal disagreements, it risks following the path of parties like DP and UP Congress, which have faced challenges due to internal strife.
