Who is Daniel Nangalama?

National Standards Council has appointed Daniel Nangalama (Pictured) as Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) acting executive director.

Daniel Nangalama, a prominent figure in governance and financial management, has an impressive career history. According to information on the UNBS website, he previously held the position of deputy executive director, overseeing management and financial services. In this role, he provided strategic leadership and effective planning, coordinating the implementation of UNBS policies and programs, while ensuring optimal utilization of available resources.

His association with UNBS dates back to his tenure as an audit manager from 2013 to 2016. Before joining UNBS, Nangalama served as the chief internal auditor at Kyambogo University. Throughout his professional journey, he has garnered over two decades of experience in both private and public sectors.

Nangalama’s expertise encompasses a diverse range of fields, including strategy and policy monitoring, internal audit, financial and operations management. His areas of focus span across tertiary education, energy, and quality and standards regulation.

His academic qualifications are equally impressive, comprising a master’s degree in accounting and finance, a post-graduate diploma in human resource management, a certificate in law (administrative officers course), and a bachelor’s degree in commerce.

Notably, he has undergone specialized training in various disciplines, such as Quality Management Systems (QMS ISO 9001), Corporate Governance for directors and senior managers, Internet security and ethical hacking, competence-based job evaluation, and public finance reforms. Furthermore, he holds professional certifications as a certified public accountant (Uganda and Kenya), certified internal auditor, certified information systems auditor, and certified ISO 31000 risk management professional.

Apart from his professional pursuits, Nangalama actively engages in governance responsibilities. He serves as a member of the audit committee of the Inter-University Council of East Africa, the Governing Council of Aduku College of Commerce, and the board of Finance Mukono Diocese. Additionally, he is the chairperson of the board of governors at Bubulo Secondary School and a board member of Bubulo Girls High School. Moreover, he has contributed his expertise to various professional committees at the Institute of Internal Auditors of Uganda (IIA-Uganda) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).

Throughout his working and voluntary life, Nangalama has played a vital role in establishing policy frameworks and strengthening institutional capabilities in the domains of governance, auditing, risk management, financial and operations management. He is a staunch advocate of teamwork, inclusiveness, value-added proposition, continuous improvement, and professionalism.

Nangalama’s commitment to excellence extends beyond his professional endeavors. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda and a life member of the Bible Society of Uganda, demonstrating his dedication to personal growth and community service.
