This eviction operation is anticipated to incur a cost of up to Shs20.2 million for the University.

“Our sources have confirmed that all unauthorized businesses will be evicted in the early hours, so expect some tear gas on the hill today,” an anonymous source informed reporters.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, stated that he was unaware of the planned eviction. However, Mr. Julius Gumisiriza, the chairperson of Makerere University Business Owners, confirmed the impending eviction.

“The university management has kept the eviction a closely guarded secret, but we received information from our sources that they intend to come and evict everybody tomorrow (today),” Gumisiriza disclosed in a recent interview.

Furthermore, Gumisiriza revealed that they had filed a case in the Court of Appeal regarding this matter.

“Last year, we appealed after losing to the university. Our case is awaiting judgment, and we are scheduled to appear before the court on November 20. The university seems to be ignoring this and intends to use force,” he remarked.

For now, they are left with no option but to wait for the University’s actions and then proceed with their case in court.
