Old Kampala police have apprehended Ronald Ongom on suspicion of attempting to steal 28 million shillings from Chinese trader Sun Hengde in Kisenyi II Parish, Central Division of Kampala. Investigations reveal Ongom colluded with a store worker named Kaboyi to trap Hengde inside the store while he absconded with the cash during the night.
Ongom and Kaboyi entered the store around 8 pm under the guise of shopping, but Ongom vanished within the premises. After Hengde locked up for the night, unaware of the robber’s presence, Ongom struggled to find spare keys despite bagging 28.6 million shillings. His attempt to break free with a hammer alerted nearby lodge residents, who intervened.
Frustrated, Ongom confessed to planning the theft of additional items including a translator gadget, Wi-Fi system, DVDR, Disk Drive, and extension cables. When Hengde returned to the store, locals had already apprehended Ongom, who was in possession of the stolen cash. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, confirmed the failed robbery.
