Kikube: Three shot at party, policeman arrested

KIKUBE DISTRICT – In a recent development, police have arrested one of their own in Kikuube District, located in western Uganda. Another officer, who is currently on the run, is being pursued by the police. The incident occurred during an introduction ceremony in Kipongo village, Kinogozu Parish, Buhimba Sub County, where three individuals were allegedly shot and injured.

The two suspected officers were assigned to provide security at the introduction party, which took place at the residence of the late Tibaryangire Temiseo on Saturday. Their supervisor, AIP Nuiat Nakigozi, had deployed them for this duty.

According to Mr. Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Police Regional Spokesperson, Police Constable (PC) Harold Mwesigwa has been apprehended, while PC Denis Arinaitwe is currently evading arrest as investigations into the incident continue.

Additionally, AIP Nakigozi has been charged with neglect of duty in connection with the incident. Mr. Hakiza stated, “We are investigating a shooting incident in which three individuals were injured. Preliminary findings indicate that during the event, police officers were attacked by a group of men armed with pangas, who seemed to be agitated. Despite the officers firing warning shots into the air, the assailants persisted in approaching them, resulting in the injury of three individuals.”

The injured parties have been identified as Violet Katusabe (22), Joel Mugume (24), and Julius Tugume (40). Well-wishers promptly transported them to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment, and their condition was reported as stable at the time of the statement.

Mr. Hakiza added, “Investigations to uncover the motive behind the attack are ongoing,” as the police continue their efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
