Residents of Katatahwa Trading Center in Kagadi District were in shock and mourning after a man in his 30s hit his wife with a brick, instantly killing her after a domestic dispute. As details emerge about the events leading up to the tragedy, many are left wondering how this could have happened.

Both the suspect, Twikirize Rosemary’s husband Mugarura Alex, who is still at large, and the deceased Twikirize Rosemary, a mother of six children, are residents of Katatahwa Trading Center Bukungwe village in Kagadi sub-county Kagadi district.

One of the dead’s children, told The Black Examiner‘s Tumwesige Ivan that the conflict began on Thursday night when his father, Mugarura Alex, told his mother, who is now deceased, to accompany him for weeding in a sugar cane plantation owned by one Tibarora of the same residence.

According to neighbors and family of the couple, Alex and his wife had a tumultuous relationship that was often marred by arguments and outbursts of anger. Some say that John had a history of violent outbursts even before the incident, but his wife never reported it to the authorities.

The child explained that when her father Alex Mugarura returned from weeding the sugarcanes, the couple picked a quarrel which prompted Alex to hit his wife with a brick who died on the spot.

Residents of this community who were able to speak with this website claimed that Alex Mugarura once struggled with mental health issues and was an alcoholic.

They characterized the deceased Rosemary as a woman who had been living well with other neighborhood inhabitants.

The event was ascribed to domestic violence by Lawrence Kamihaanda, chairperson of local council one in Bukungwe Village, who also urged locals to always seek the advice of caring leaders whenever there are family disagreements.

He also urged the community, particularly the youth, to abstain from drug usage, pointing out that Alex, the suspect, and his wife Rosemary, who is now deceased, both had alcohol addictions.

Domestic violence is a pervasive issue that affects millions of people every year. While it is impossible to say for sure what led to this tragedy, it is important for everyone to recognize the warning signs and take action to prevent similar incidents from happening in their own communities.

As we reflect on this tragedy, let us remember the importance of speaking out against domestic violence and supporting those who may be at risk. We must work together to break the cycle of violence and ensure that incidents like this never happen again.
