Police in western Uganda’s Rukungiri District have arrested a health worker on charges of murder and attempted suicide.
Jackson Arineitwe, who works at Ngoma Health Centre II in Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri District, is suspected of stabbing his wife, Enid Natukunda, to death before attempting suicide.

The incident took place at their Rwenanura cell Nyabitete parish Buyanja Sub County residence.
“It is said that on May 19, 2023, Enid Natukunda’s parents invited the couple for a visit, but the husband declined because he did not have enough money to purchase some essential items for the parents.” Natukunda, on the other hand, insisted on seeing her parents. When she returned, they picked a fight, forcing her to sleep alone in the visitor’s room,” said Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate on Sunday.

Last night, the kids overheard their parents arguing and alerted their neighbors.
“Upon arrival, the neighbors heard noise coming from the store and upon entering, they saw Jackson hanging on the rope, which they cut,” the police spokesperson continued.

“They immediately alerted Buyanja police, who swung into action and secured the scene of the crime and arrested the suspect.” The murder weapon (knife) was found and displayed. “Before the body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Center three for postmortem, blood samples from the deceased were also collected,” Mr Maate stated.
Domestic abuse cases reported in the country increased slightly in 2022, according to the Annual Crimes Report.
