Summary:

  • Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja announced that head teachers in Uganda may soon be required to enroll their children in the schools where they work to improve education quality. She warned, “We see you taking your children to another school, we sack you.” This policy aims to ensure head teachers invest in the same education system they oversee.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has announced that the Ugandan government is drafting a new policy that will require head teachers to enroll their children in the schools where they work. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education in government schools.

During a recent meeting with head teachers and patriotism coordinators at the Oliver Tambo School of Leadership and the Pan African Centre for Excellence in Kaweweta, Nakaseke district, Nabbanja highlighted the issue. She pointed out that many head teachers currently prefer private schools for their own children, believing these institutions offer a higher standard of education compared to government schools.

“Some of you head teachers do not enroll your children in the schools where you teach,” Nabbanja remarked. “We agreed that to address this and improve the quality of education, head teachers must enroll their children in their respective schools. This policy will compel you to ensure the same level of education for all students.” She added, “We see you taking your children to another school, we sack you.”

The meeting, held at a school named after South African freedom fighter Oliver Tambo, emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public education standards. Nabbanja’s comments indicate a strong stance on accountability and quality improvement within the education system.
